If your child has been begging
for a playhouse, or even if you simply think kids playhouses make for great fun
and would like to surprise your child, there are a few things to consider
beforehand. You don’t want to spend the money on a playhouse that your child is
not going to like or play with, just as you want your child to get as much
enjoyment out of it as possible, so you should consider all of the options.
First of all, think about the
size. Perhaps your child is an only child and will mostly play on their own. In
this case you would be looking at a smaller playhouse or even a treehouse with
other amusements underneath to keep them amused. If you have a larger family
you will want a playhouse large enough to fit all of the children in at once,
as well as a friend or two. If kids are playing in big groups and can’t all fit
into the playhouse then none of them will use it and it will go ignored. Think
about the groups you expect to want to play in the playhouse and fit in with
this kind of sizing.
Another thing to think about is
where to put the playhouse. Kids mostly like the idea of having their own house
to look after, and their own secret space to be away from adults so putting it
in the garden seems like a great plan to many adults. However, you should be
thinking about the factors that may prevent your child enjoying an outdoor
playhouse just in case. Perhaps your child is phobic about bugs and spiders? In
this case they are unlikely to enjoy what is essentially a garden shed that at
certain times of the year will be full of such creatures. Also think about the
weather where you live, as you will want a playhouse that stands up to years of
play and won’t fall apart after a particularly harsh winter.
If you have space indoors you
could always buy plastic kids playhouses and set them up in the corner of a
certain room, or if you have an attic or a basement with lots of free space you
could set up a little den in these areas for kids to enjoy. As long as children
feel they have their own space to get away from the main household and enjoy
their secrets and games then they should be just as thrilled with a small den
in the attic as with an elaborate playhouse in the garden.
