A playhouse is something that most children would love,
giving them a space that is completely their own to enjoy, and is strictly no
parents allowed! Kids can have their own secret meetings, enjoy playing house
in a much more realistic representation of a home, or just have somewhere to
escape whenever day to day life gets stressful.
Plastic playhouses are great to be kept in the home, but
kids will absolutely adore the idea of having their own wooden kids playhouse in the
garden. As anyone with a shed knows, a wooden playhouse will last under any
weather conditions and once it is built will pretty much last as long as you
want it to, giving your children a place to go whenever they like, whatever the
weather. You can, of course, buy wooden playhouses which come with instructions
and are already designed gorgeously to appeal to adults and children alike.
However, if you are looking for a more cost effective way to build your
children their own playhouse you may want to build it yourself. You won’t need
to have a great deal of skill when it comes to carpentry, but a good plan and
some solid ground to build on.
Choose the area in which you want the playhouse and work
out roughly what size you want it to be. Once you know what space you are
working with, and anything you may need to work around (plants and trees,
concrete areas) then you can start planning your playhouse. As this is for your
children, it is a good idea to bring them into the planning process. Ask what
they want from a playhouse (within reason!) and make this into a list of
features. You can then start looking online for playhouse plans that will help
you find the right materials and make sure everything is the right size and
shape before you begin.
For the right materials, look online for cheap wood
suppliers and you should be able to find some materials that are being sold off
cheap. Just make sure everything is going to be big enough, or of the right
quality to build a playhouse that is going to last. You don’t want to go for
MDF or anything too flimsy as then the next windy day you may find you only
have half a playhouse!
Once you have your materials you can start cutting
everything down to the right size in advance so that you have all the pieces,
all the nails, wood, or brackets you need and then you can follow the
instructions on your plan to start putting the playhouse together. At this
stage it will be just as easy to build your playhouse from scratch as it would
be to buy one and put that together in the garden.
